Zero

The Fool, Tarot card number 0, represents new beginnings. He is seemingly unconcerned that he is standing on a precipice, apparently about to leap, engaged in the supreme act of idiocy or trust... Is The Fool making a mistake, or a leap of faith? Will he fall to his death or begin to fly? We're on the precipice of a cliff. Not only the end of a year but the beginning of an entire new decade. We are approaching a big moment. Zero is almost here.

Many of us are jaded about the whole New Year's Resolution business because we have promised ourselves too many things we didn't fulfill. Yet, a new decade seems too big of a landmark to leave unnoticed. More than promises and resolutions, this might be a good time to stop for a moment to reflect on our life journey.

Wherever you are in life right now, think of all the things you are grateful for—anything good that happened from 2000 to this moment. Be grateful for the big and little things... You can breathe, you can read, you are alive. Write a list of all the blessings you have, from the most mundane to the extraordinary, and realize how lucky you are. Thank all the people in your life for so many beautiful moments. Be grateful for them or even write them a quick message to brighten their day.

Now think of anything you wish to leave behind. Anything you are ready to let go of. It can be an old attitude that no longer serves you, something you are afraid of or someone whose path has turned in a different direction. Visualize these attitudes, people and objects and imagine they are all contained in a sphere in front of you. Take a breath and as you exhale imagine the sphere and its contents dissipating away from you. Release them with love. This is your chance to start fresh... we're starting from zero.

Close your eyes for a moment and connect to yourself. With each inhale imagine warm light coming into your body. With each exhale release any sadness or anger. After a few breaths, see yourself in your mind's eye and say "I love you". This might actually be very difficult... but you can do it. Fill yourself with love and compassion for yourself. If you are like most people, you might sometimes be hard on yourself. Thank yourself for doing your best.

And now take a moment to visualize yourself the way you want to be in the new decade. Imagine yourself approaching the cliff and as you step off—you feel a mixture of excitement and fear. Suddenly you discover a new sensation in your back–you have grown wings. What you thought would be a fall is really the start of a new phase. You begin to fly into the next decade. What will you be like in 2010? Visualize yourself in detail. What will your life be like? What are your dreams, wishes and goals? Write them down. They are sacred. They are a big part of who you are. May they all come true for you in the new decade.
