Do You Think She's Beautiful?

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."
Although Audrey Hepburn has often been called one of the most beautiful women of all time, she never considered herself to be very attractive. She said in a 1959 interview: "you can even say that I hated myself at certain periods. I was too fat, or maybe too tall, or maybe just plain too ugly..."
I recently met an amazing person who is very inspiring and a lot of fun. To illustrate a point he asked me a question about another woman (not Audrey):
"Do you think she's beautiful?" It was interesting that he asked that question about this person.
"I used to think she was the most beautiful woman in the universe... a force of nature," I said, "but now I don't really think she's that pretty."
"It's because when people first meet her, they get seduced by her. By 'seduction' I mean actions she takes to get people to do what she wants, not necessarily in a sexual way. So when you first met her she seemed amazing and beautiful, but that facade fell off as you got to meet her true nature. Remember what I told you about angels? Mexico is full of them—they even have angels made of concrete. Have you ever seen an ugly angel? Angels are beautiful no matter what. When you see them in the cemetery they may be old, their nose may be chipped or their wings broken... they may have bird poop all over... but they are always beautiful, aren't they? Even a flawed representation of an angel expresses the inner beauty that they represent. That's the kind of beauty you want... the kind of beauty that lasts. The more someone knows you the more beautiful they think you are. The more they get to know you the more they like you, because the inside is even more attractive than the outside. Even if your hair or skin aren't perfect, you still glow, like all angels do."
Yes, that does sound like long-lasting beauty.

This is all very true! When you get to know someone more and find great beauty inside them, you see that same beauty outside of them too... and if you get to know someone and find them ugly inside, you see that uglyness outside of them as well.
Audrey Hepburn? Oh, yes.
